Stop the engine and check the water
screen.
Is it blocked with foreign material?
NO
Check the cooling water with the
engine idling.
Is the water flowing through the
check port steadily?
YES
Put the outboard motor into gear for
a few minutes and let the engine cool
down at idle speed.
Does the overheat indicator light go
OFF and the buzzer stop sounding?
NO
Check the thermostat (P. 8-4).
Is it normal?
YES
Check the indicator light
(P. 15-9, 16-36).
Is it normal?
YES
Perform the ECT sensor
troubleshooting (P. 5-39, 5-65).

Remove the foreign material.
• Check the water pump and replace
if necessary (P. 11-19).
• Check the water tube. Replace the
water tube if it is blocked or
damaged (P. 11-56).
Temporary failure (Disappears.)
Replace the thermostat (P. 8-2).
Replace the indicator light
(P. 15-4, 16-18).
