12) Holding the gear in the position described in step 8, loosen
the remote control cable [shift side] lock nut and turn the
shift pivot so it sets on the shift link B smoothly.

13) After adjustment, tighten the lock nut securely and install

the remote control cable [shift side] on the shift link B.
14) After installing the cable, move the lever back and forth and

check the gearshift operation.

• If it is hard to shift to the "F" (forward) gear or "R"
(Reverse) gear position, shift by turning the propeller or
5
propeller shaft with the engine stopped.

15) Shift from the "F" (Forward) gear position to the "N"

(Neutral) gear position.
If the gear fails to shift to neutral, remove the remote

control cable [shift side] from the shift link B, and install the
shift pivot on the shift link B with the inner cable moved
15
toward the mark (A).
After adjustment, shift from the "F" (Forward) gear position
16 to the "N" (Neutral) gear position, and check for proper
engagement.

16) Shift from the "R" (Reverse) gear position to the "N"

(Neutral) gear position.
If the gear fails to shift to neutral, remove the remote
control cable [shift side] from the shift link B, and install the

shift pivot on the shift link B with the inner cable moved
toward the mark (B).
After adjustment, shift from the "R" (Reverse) gear position
to the "N" (Neutral) gear position, and check for proper
engagement.
17) Check the gearshift by putting the outboard motor to each
gear position.
If neutral does not engage properly, repeat the procedure
of step 14 or step 15.
18) Install the engine cover (P. 4-2).
