• FORWARD BEVEL GEAR SHIM
1) Set the special tool on a new 35 x 58 x 17 mm bearing.

TOOL:
Bearing height gauge

2) Measure the gap (F) in the special tool as shown.
Determine the tolerance using the following formula and

record it.

Formula: F - 0.5 = Tolerance

Example:
When the gap (F) is 0.6 mm (0.02 in):

0.6 - 0.5 = 0.1

The tolerance is +0.1 mm (+0.004 in).

3) Remove the trim tab from the gear case (P. 11-47).
4) Cross reference the engagement mark located on the trim

tab installation part of the gear case in the position shown
and the tolerance calculated in step 2, and refer to the shim

selection table to determine the required thickness of the
shim (Sf).

5) Select the shims from the forward bevel shims of different
thickness to obtain the required thickness (Sf) by
12
combining the shims.
