5) Remove the trim tab from the gear case (P. 11-47).
6) Cross reference the engagement mark located on the gear

case in the position shown and the tolerance calculated in
step 4, and refer to the pinion gear shim selection table (P.

12-44) to determine the required thickness of the shim (Sp).
7) Select the shims from the gear shims of different thickness

to obtain the required thickness (Sp) by combining the
shims.

How to read shim selection table:

When the engagement mark on the gear case is D and the tolerance is +0.20 mm (+0.008 in), the shim selection table
shows that the required shim thickness is 0.85 mm (0.033 in). (See the table shown below).
